Psychotherapy ~ Medication Management ~ Ketamine Treatment
About
I am a board certified psychiatrist serving as the medical director at Being Health, a modern outpatient mental health practice serving patients in the New York metropolitan area and located in downtown Manhattan. I provide psychiatric consultations, treatment and medication management within Being Health’s integrated care model. I also provide evaluations and ongoing treatment for ketamine infusion therapy. You may schedule an appointment with me directly through Being Health’s website.
I completed my adult psychiatry residency at the New York University School of Medicine and Bellevue Hospital Center in New York City. Prior to this I received my undergraduate and medical degrees from Georgetown University.
In addition to my work at Being Health, much of my work has involved helping individuals who are in crisis and helping individuals heal from significant trauma. This has included serving as the Associate Director at Bellevue Hospital Center's Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program, providing therapy for LGBT asylum-seekers at the Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Torture, providing mental health treatment to homeless women who have experienced trauma, providing mental health and addiction treatment to individuals with substance use disorders and providing psychiatric evaluations and treatment to asylum-seekers at the Program for Torture Victims in Los Angeles.
My work has also entailed providing ketamine treatments in the context of ongoing psychotherapy primarily for individuals experiencing depressive symptoms that have not responded to other forms of treatment. My approach to ketamine treatments has been grounded in scientific evidence as well as principles of ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and other forms of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. An important factor in providing ketamine treatment has been for individuals to have ongoing therapeutic support to sustain the healing process.
Treatment Approach
I tailor treatments to an individual's specific needs which may include psychotherapy, treatment with medications or both.
My initial goal is to gain the best understanding possible of what brings you into treatment and what conditions and experiences are contributing to the challenges you may be having. Then coming up with a treatment plan together, which may include therapy, medications and/or alternative treatments.
Most individuals I work with are in treatment for symptoms of depression or anxiety disorders, including effects of trauma and PTSD. This can also include issues related to work or relationship challenges or dissatisfaction. I also work with some individuals on integrating psychedelic experiences.
